We expect most applications not to run on local devices anymore, but rather on cloud based services. As even the most complex and time sensitive consumer tasks, such as gaming, are currently shifting towards cloud-based solutions it can be expected, that this trend will occur in almost all areas of computing. This could change the way humans interact with devices, as traditional operating systems may no longer be required, but rather a web-based system will be the central element of technical devices. On-device computation will only exist where it is essential, for example in Edge-AI use cases such as robots or autonomous things. Cloud based platforms (PaaS) will increase their market share in complex tasks, as the offered computation can hardly be met with traditional workstations or local servers.
